Cocorico Bee Blocks

I haven't shared the blocks I received from my year in the Cocorico Bee.  When it was my turn, I requested blocks with an Art Studio theme.  I love the variety of blocks that I received.  I now need to challenge myself to create at least one block of my own to add to the quilt and then assemble these blocks into a quilt!  They are not all the same size so it will involve some creative sashing but they look remarkably good together color wise don't they?  It's astonishing how easily they will all meld together.  I feel very lucky and grateful for all the time and effort that I know was required to make each of these blocks and look forward to making a quilt with them this year.

Thank you to:

Here is a collage of the blocks that I made for my bee members in the Cocorico Bee this year.  This bee was a huge commitment of time and creative energy but I really enjoyed it!

Any ideas for my block for the Art Studio quilt?  I am thinking of perhaps something Printmaking related but am open to ideas.  I might also create some space fillers like a long brush to make a rectangular block turn square with a little sashing in order to fit everything together.

  1. A self portrait or sketch book/art journal come to mind. the idea of a few smaller blocks sounds good to me. It will make an interesting quilt even more interesting.
Your fellow B'ers did a great job of making blocks for you!!

  2. When you make your block you can lay it out so the center two blocks are either empty space to highlight some awesome quilting or put one focus fabric in the middle....ie....some of your printed fabric!:) You know...all the blocks make a frame!:)

  4. Those blocks are all so awesome - I've been seeing them pop up on the web here and there…!
For your block, what about doing a "painting" or some other art piece that was "created" with all the tools they've sent you? :-)

  5. Paper and scissors or fabric and scissors and lots of scraps.

  7. Love both the incoming and outgoing blocks there!

Four yours, how about a little scene with a painting on the wall, with a little pot and a mini quilt or something on a shelf below (you know me, nothing but overkill will do ;o)

  10. Printmaking would be great for your block. Or maybe a b&w pencil drawing and a camera (like photographing a finished piece type scene)?

I love the Pippi Longstocking block you did!
